Help Make Delaware More Equitable.
UNITED WAY OF DELAWARE’S PRIDE COUNCIL IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE A $1 FOR $1 MATCH (UP TO $10,000) FOR ANY DONATIONS UNTIL JUNE 1, 2021.
We are partnering with West End Neighborhood House’s Drop-In Center to make a Delaware more equitable for all.
West End’s Drop-In Center will serve unaccompanied homeless youth between the ages of 18-23, including those who have experienced the foster care system and/or identify as belonging to the LGBTQ+ community. While not a homeless shelter, the Drop-In Center is part of a broader initiative that encompasses two primary strategies to address homelessness:
- Expanding West End’s current housing capacity by 10 beds (for a total of 33) by renovating two existing 3-bedroom homes and building two new homes (one 3-bedroom, one ADA-compliant efficiency unit)
- Broadening the scope of those served to include youth without prior foster care involvement and/or those who identify as LGBTQ+.
To date, construction of the new homes and renovation of both existing houses and the Drop-In Center is approximately 35% complete and is scheduled to finish in June, 2021.
Supportive Services: West End’s Drop-In Center will provide the supportive services these youth need to reintegrate into society and, ultimately, become self-sufficient. Such services include, but are not limited to education, physical and mental health, drug and alcohol prevention/treatment, parenting (as applicable), job training and placement, housing, etc. Such services will both help ensure youths’ ultimate success and strengthen their connection to the community in which they live.
